Dr Karen Marshall is a practicing Respiratory Nurse Consultant at Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Hospitals Foundation Trust, an honorary senior lecturer at Edge Hill University and an associate researcher at Newcastle University. She is also a British Lung Foundation Professional Respiratory Nurse.
Karen is passionate about caring for people with respiratory disease and has recorded a short video to warn smokers of the possible consequences.
She said: “The best thing to prevent COPD is not to smoke in the first place, and if you do smoke, the next best thing is to stop. That is the only thing that is going to stop the COPD from getting any worse and will actually help your breathing.
“It is never too late to stop – even if you’ve got really severe lung damage, stopping smoking will help you live longer.”
